America should come forward to end its double-faced policy towards terrorism. It must understand that there can be no compromise with terrorism.

It is sad that 2025 is starting with a terrorist incident in America. An American citizen named Shamsuddin Jabbar ran over people celebrating New Year in New Orleans, a famous tourist city, with his car, killing 15 people and injuring 35. He did not stop there. He got out of the car and started firing, but the police retaliated and killed him on the spot. Some documents related to Islamic State (IS) have been found from Jabbar's car. American intelligence and investigation agencies believe that he is not alone in this incident; he also has accomplices, but no information about them has been made public yet. However, after this, there has been firing in a Tesla truck in front of Trump Hotel in Las Vegas and then in Queens, but it is not yet clear whether these are terrorist incidents or not.

Obviously, all this has shaken America. This shows that there are elements there who are connected with Islamic terrorism. It is also surprising that Jabbar had served in the American army, and it is being said that though he was brought up in Christianity, he had converted to Islam. It is also reported that in 2009-10 he had served in Afghanistan as an American soldier. American agencies will undoubtedly try to get to the root of all these incidents, but in America, there are frequent incidents of firing in which individuals attack school children or office colleagues. The reason for this has been considered to be America's gun policy. Semi-automatic guns are sold openly there and its 'gun lobby' is so powerful that the political parties or groups there are unable to go against it. But the latest incident is different.

Till now, in Europe, people influenced by the Islamic State have been carrying out incidents like Jabbar, but this is probably the first case in America, which is so directly linked to Islamic State. This incident has raised many questions. In fact, after the 9/11 attack by Al Qaeda, America had declared war against global terrorism. Due to this, in November 2001, it overthrew the Taliban government from Afghanistan, and in May 2011, killed Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Still, despite all its possible efforts, it could not defeat the Afghan Taliban, and on 29 February 2020, it had to make an agreement with it, in which it was assured that the Afghan Taliban would not allow international terrorist groups to flourish on its land. It is also believed that the Taliban of Afghanistan will not allow international terrorist groups to flourish.

This new regime sympathizes with Al Qaeda, but not with Islamic State, because IS, which originated in Iraq, has its roots in Al Qaeda, but later both became enemies of each other. Just a few weeks ago, IS had taken responsibility for the murder of Afghan Taliban leader Khalil-ur-Rehman Haqqani in Afghanistan. Obviously, the accusation of America, as well as many countries of the West, against the Afghan Taliban that it has not been able to eliminate global terrorist groups from its soil does not seem wrong. However, it is also true that IS had initially established its dominance over many parts of Iraq and Syria, but later, due to the action of the American army, its areas of influence had reduced considerably.

It is clear that the influence of terrorist ideology like IS is not over yet, and if it continues

If the ideology can influence people like Shamsuddin Jabbar, a former US soldier, or incite them to commit terrorist attacks, then international cooperation is desperately needed to eradicate it. Most Islamic countries themselves are against ideologies like ISIS because the supporters of this ideology believe that the leaders of these Islamic countries have actually abandoned the principles of Islam. In such a situation, it is very important to take the support of these countries in the international fight against ISIS.

It is true that after 9/11, America waged a war against global terrorism, but India cannot forget that Washington continued to ignore New Delhi's statement that Pakistan is also adopting a policy of terrorism against it. If America had shown seriousness then, perhaps it would not have to see these days today. In the last few years, America's attention has shifted from global terrorism to the Ukraine war, and we should also not forget that the way America blindly supports Israel, it is also suffering losses. Of course, the incident of October 7, 2023, should be strongly condemned, but if 45 thousand people die in Gaza in response to this, then organizations like Islamic State get nourishment from all this somewhere.

If the fight against terrorism is to be successful, then it is also necessary that the international community must put full pressure on countries like Pakistan, because such countries resort to terrorism to advance their foreign and security policies. Pakistan may say anything, but it divides terrorism into good and bad; that is, terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, which advance its objectives, are good in its eyes, while groups like Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which fight it, are bad. America should also come forward to end such thinking. It has to be understood that there can be no compromise with terrorism. Now it remains to be seen what lesson Donald Trump, who is going to take the oath as president on January 20, learns from the New Orleans incident.
