In the northeastern state of Manipur, people will have to forgive their past mistakes and forget many things. A new life will have to be started towards a peaceful and prosperous state

The new year has begun with new hope in Manipur. Chief Minister N. Barin Singh has not only expressed regret but also apologized for the ethnic conflict in the state. The Chief Minister has also expressed hope that normalcy will be restored in the state in 2025. He has admitted that the past year has been very unfortunate. Many people have lost their loved ones. Many people have become homeless. There is no doubt that people in Manipur will have to forgive the past mistakes and forget many things. A new life will have to be started towards a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.

There is no doubt that in the new year, all the 35 tribes of Manipur will have to make efforts to live together in harmony. Tribal tensions are not new, not only in Manipur but also in other states of the Northeast. In 1947 itself, for the first time, Nehru's government was challenged by the rebellion in Nagaland. It was also not hidden from his government that during the British rule, large-scale conversions had taken place among the Nagas, Mizos, Kuki-Jos, and some other communities. It was only after this that the Naga National Council was born there. In 1954, when the Naga community started declaring independence, the central government ordered the use of Assam Rifles there. The government approved the 'Armed Forces Special Powers Act' in the Parliament in 1958. Since then, this Act has been used in various areas of the Northeast and some other states of India. Let us tell you here that a lot of opposition and objection has been raised against this law in the past years. Overall, discontent in the Northeast is not a new thing. Manipur is also included in this series. One should look at it in detail.

The population equation in Manipur is also creating problems. People of the Meitei community are the majority of the population of Manipur.

The population of the Manipur Valley is 53 percent. Nagas and Kukis are 24 and 17 percent, respectively. The majority of the population of the Manipur Valley is Hindu. From the time of Prime Minister Pandit Nehru to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Hindu population in Manipur has come down from 62 percent to 41 percent. This imbalance in the society there has given rise to suspicion, distrust, and tribal social inequality.

Women are also not being spared in violent incidents

The statement of the Chief Minister of Manipur himself shows that the internal situation of the state is dire and worrisome. If we analyze these situations, then we can say that neither is it a rebellion against the government nor is it just a law and order problem; it is neither a civil war nor does it have anything to do with the Maoists. then what is it?

This situation is actually anarchy and anarchy, which is becoming increasingly autocratic day by day, and the influence of the government machinery seems to be decreasing. Still, it is worth noting that even today ManipurIf a democratic government is ruling in the state, then why is Manipur burning, and why have we not been able to establish peace for so many months? Unfortunately, such questions are constantly being discussed.

Violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Jo tribes in the first week of May 2023. More than 200 people have lost their lives here. About 62,000 people have been displaced, and many religious places have been demolished. There is also a concern that separatists and terrorists are also making a living out of ethnic tensions. Recently, 10 terrorists were killed by security forces in Jiribam district. This action had to be taken because the terrorists had attacked the security personnel's post and relief camp and kidnapped and killed six members of a Meitei family. The special thing about Manipur is that the security forces there are acting with great restraint. If it were any other country, it would have curbed such miscreants and terrorists very strictly. The problem here is that the government.

Even if the government is exercising restraint, it is facing criticism, and if it uses force, it will still have many critics. Another problem in Manipur is politics, which has increased the tension.

Unfortunately, many people in Manipur have illegal weapons. Some have been bought from here and there, and some have been looted from government armories. There is also a concern that if an anti-India government is formed in Bangladesh, then the problem of illegal weapons will increase a lot in the Northeast and Manipur too. It is necessary to run a campaign to seize illegal weapons from people. Drugs and illegal trade have to be stopped completely. Therefore, it is very important that a solution to the problem of Manipur be found at many levels. After the apology of the Chief Minister of Manipur, it should be hoped that the right path of solution will be found so that an atmosphere of complete peace prevails in Manipur in the next three to four months. This is a national problem, which can be solved by joining hands with both heart and mind. The pain and suffering in Manipur will have to be shared. Efforts will have to be made to change hearts like the Mizoram model and the Kashmir Valley. Before this, it will have to be thought whether there is a need to change the current government or if the desired results will be achieved by just changing the style of governance?

Those violent people of Manipur, who are not hesitant to take the law and order in their hands, will also have to be convinced. If people themselves take up arms and start blocking the path of the police-administration, then such a situation cannot be tolerated for long. People must have a fear of law and order. The entire state should not be punished for some wrong criminal elements.Peace has to be restored in Manipur before the situation in Bangladesh worsens and the wrong help coming from Myanmar increases. The solution to this problem is to create trust among the three concerned sections. We have to look forward and forget the past. This problem has to be considered a national problem. There is a need for dialogue initiatives at the central level. Various sections in Manipur also want to communicate eagerly. After the chief minister's apology, basic steps should be taken to restore peace there.
