Properties of Ginger and Its Ayurvedic Remedies

 (Introduction)

Ginger is commonly used in every household to make food tasty and digestible. Although it is grown in all the states, most of the production is done in the state of Kerala. The tuber that grows inside the soil is called ginger in wet conditions and dry ginger in dry states. Keeping it in wet soil keeps it fresh for a long time. The tuber is pale yellowish, multifaceted, and fragrant.

(Property)

Due to the many medicinal properties in ginger, it is considered a great medicine in Ayurveda. It is hot, pungent, heavy, sweet in cooking, an appetizer, digestive, fattening, palatable, and free from the tridosha, i.e., vata, pitta, and phlegm.

According to scientists, 80 percent of ginger's chemical composition is water, while dry ginger contains about 10 percent of it. In addition, starch is 53 percent, protein is 12.4 percent, fiber is 7.2 percent, ash is 6.6 percent, essential oil is 1.8 percent, and osteorrazine is found in the main form.

Dry ginger also contains proteins, nitrogen, amino acids, starch, glucose, sucrose, fructose, essential oils, oleoresin, gingerine, raffinose, calcium, vitamins 'B' and 'C,' proteolytic enzymes, and iron. Due to the proteolytic enzyme, dry ginger has proved to be very beneficial in removing phlegm and the digestive system.

(Harmful effects)

Due to the hot nature of ginger, people who do not digest hot food in the summer season should not consume it in diseases like leprosy, jaundice, blood bile, wounds, fever, bleeding from the body, urination, and irritation. Ginger should not be consumed in case of vomiting blood and in the summer season, and if necessary, it should be used in a minimum quantity.

(Treatment of various diseases)

Hiccup:

In all types of hiccups, a clean little nugget of ginger should be sucked.

Sucking a fine piece of ginger stops the hiccups soon. Grind rock salt in ghee or water and smell it; it stops hiccups.

Take a spoonful of ginger juice and mix it with 250 ml of fresh cow's milk and drink it; it provides relief in hiccups.

Boil a cup of milk and add half a teaspoon of dry ginger powder to it and drink it after cooling.

Sucking on small pieces of fresh ginger stops old, new, and persistent hiccups. This is a natural remedy to remove all types of incurable hiccups.

Colic pain



Grind ginger and garlic in equal quantities and consume one teaspoon of water with water.

Take one gram of ground dry ginger and a little asafoetida and rock salt with hot water; it cures stomach pain. Stomach pain, constipation, and indigestion are cured by drinking a spoonful of ground dry ginger and rock salt heated in a glass of water.

Take half a tola of ginger and mint juice and add one gram of rock salt to it and drink it; it provides instant relief from stomach pain.

Drink ginger juice and basil leaf juice, 2-2 teaspoons with a little warm water; it soothes stomach pain.

Add a little carom seeds to a cup of hot water, add 2 teaspoons of ginger juice, and drink it.

Mix lemon juice in ginger juice and put black pepper powder on it and lick it; it provides relief in stomach pain.

Mix 5 ml of ginger juice, 5 ml of lemon juice, and 1 gram of black pepper powder and drink it; it cures stomach pain.

Halitosis



Mix a spoonful of ginger juice in a glass of warm water and rinse it; it removes the odor of the mouth.

Toothache



Mix finely ground rock salt with ginger juice and apply it on the painful tooth.

In case of sudden pain in the teeth, peel a small piece of ginger and press it under the painful tooth.

Pressing ginger pieces between the teeth is beneficial in toothache due to cold.

Lack of appetite:

Soak small pieces of ginger in lemon juice and add rock salt to it; feed it regularly before eating.

Boil equal amounts of jaggery, ginger, lemon juice, celery, and turmeric in water and then filter it and drink it.

Sore throat



Grind ginger, cloves, asafoetida, and salt together and prepare small tablets of it. Suck one tablet each 3-4 times a day.

Paralysis (paralysis)



Roast urad dal in ghee and grind half of it with jaggery and dry ginger. Feed it 3 times a day in the amount of two teaspoons.

Grind urad dal and roast it in ghee, then grind jaggery and dry ginger in it and mix it and make a laddoo. Eat one laddoo daily or boil dry ginger and urad and drink their water. This also cures paralysis.

Stomach and chest irritation:

Mix two teaspoons of ginger juice and one teaspoon of mint juice in a glass of sugarcane juice and drink it.

Vata and back pain



Mix ginger juice with coconut oil and massage it and feed dry ginger mixed with native ghee.

Rib pain:

Boil 30 grams of dry ginger in half a kilogram of water, filter it, and drink it 4 times; it cures rib pain.

Bruising, crushing



Grind ginger on the affected area due to injury, heavy lifting, or crushing; heat it; and tie a bandage with half an inch thick coating. After two hours, remove the bandage and apply mustard oil on top of it. By doing this experiment once daily, the pain goes away soon.

Collection (bloody document):

Sonth, Nagarmotha, Atis, and Giloy: take them together and make a decoction with water. Drinking this decoction in the morning and evening provides relief.

Duodenum (diarrhea):

Make a decoction of Giloy, Atis, Sonth, and Nagarmotha and give 20 to 25 ml twice a day.

Appetite enhancers:

Eating two grams of dry ginger powder with ghee or only dry ginger powder with hot water daily in the morning increases appetite.

Eating salt and ginger chutney before meals daily purifies the tongue and throat and increases appetite.

Eating ginger pickle increases appetite.

The Pak (decoction) of dry ginger and pitta papda is relieving fever and increasing appetite. Consume it in the amount of five to ten grams daily.

Consuming a decoction of dry ginger, absinthe, nagarmotha, and giloy increases appetite and is also beneficial in fever.

Indigestion, especially due to overeating:

If there is a suspicion of indigestion (not digesting dinner in the morning), then take the powder of myrobalan, dry ginger, and rock salt with water. Eat a little food in the afternoon or evening.

Collect parsley, rock salt, myrobalan, and dry ginger powders in equal quantities. Consume one teaspoon daily.

Mix 10-20 ml of ginger juice with lemon juice and give it to the patient.

Stomach Diseases:

Make a caulk by mixing dry ginger, haritaki, baheda, and amla. Mix two and a half kilograms of cow's ghee and sesame oil, two and a half kilograms of curd water, mix them all together, and cook the ghee methodically; filter it when it is ready. Consuming 10 to 20 grams of this ghee in the morning and evening eliminates all types of stomach diseases.

Polyuria:

Mix two teaspoons of Ardak juice with sugar candy and take it twice a day to get relief.

Pain caused by hemorrhoids:

Consumption of any one of these yogas provides relief in the pain caused by piles.

Urinalysis (trouble urinating):

Boil two grams of dry ginger, bitter root, bala root, and gokhru, and boil 10 grams of jaggery in 250 ml of milk and drink it in the morning and evening; it cures pain during stool and urine.

Grind dry ginger and filter it, and mix sugar candy in milk and drink it.
